Walking out the door to get quarters for laundry, I ran into the FedEx guy.

He was delivering my RAM!

(Which I have since found I could have gotten significantly cheaper via dealram.com, but what the hell. Besides, this is one chip, and I have three slots -- max 3 GB -- to fill :-)

Laundry goes in before the RAM goes on :-D

Gah.

So I have this barebones box. I outfitted it with all the essentials -- 512 MB RAM, 100 GB HD (new), DVD drive, CD/RW drive, and 64 MB video card (PCI). Both optical drives and the video card are pulls from a working machine (which got the slight downgrade of a slower burner and lost its second drive, as well as a 32 MB video card instead -- it seemed to be okay with them).

The bloody thing won't show me anything on bootup. That is, it makes no picture whatsoever on the monitor. And yet the monitor seems to think there's some sort of signal, as it's greenlighting its LED.

I think I need to try an AGP card in there, and of course, it's too late to go get the 128 MB jobbie I just saw on special this week. Tomorrow morning. And if not, I Shall Be Wroth.

Meanwhile, tonight is for pasta with red sauce (storebought base, with added onions, garlic, ground beef, and of course those secret herbs and spices), followed by half a canteloupe filled with grapes. Yum.
