Unhappy Musing
Sep. 3rd, 2005 09:23 pmI keep having a thought. I know it's spiteful, and petty, and not at all in line with the other thoughts I have been having of sympathy and prayer for the victims along the Gulf Coast. The ones I haven't posted because every time I think I have a handle on how bad things are, they get worse.
No, I don't need to tell you. See Making Light for the best coverage and discussion of what's happening at this point.
What bothers me is this: I keep almost wishing that this was 2006, rather than 2005. Because between now and the midterm elections in the US, it's a certainty that the White House is going to find a way to ratchet up its already expensive war efforts, draining more resources and pointing attention back to its sandy quagmire. More important, it's going to cost lots more than the already >1,800 American lives unnnecessarily sacrificed just so the crooks in charge can stay there, if they can. And that's the biggest shame of all.
Surprise me, White House. Surprise me, Congress. Care about the people whose taxes you take, and whose lives are in your hands. Do something that will save lives, rather than sacrifice them, especially when they don't have to be.
Never happen, because it doesn't make for headlines and fear. And that sucks rocks.
I'm turning off comments on this, because there are several people whose comments I already hear, in my head. And this is not something I want to debate, nor even to receive agreement on. When I play Isaiah, which I hate, I just want to say my piece and shut up, which I'm doing, now.
