I Know You're Out There
Dec. 7th, 2005 01:29 pmParents whose kids like(d) Blue's Clues. And, of course, the Steve/Blue fic writers (no, I've never seen any, and no, I definitely don't want to, thankyouverymuch :-)
This is for you.
This is for you.

Dec. 7th, 2005 01:56 pmSome folks have been thinking about Christmas music recently. Which got me thinking about the subject.
There are an awful lot of seasonal songs that are fine the first time (or ten) we hear them, whether they're funny or maudlin, or silly or saccharine, or whatever. After repeated (and often enforced, for those who have the misfortune to work in retail establishments with bad and/or short tapes) listening, though, they become loathed, despised, and worse.
The one that tops that list for me is "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer." "Feliz Navidad" and The Chipmunks' Christmas song are also high on the list.
There are some that I like the first time or two each year -- "Carol of the Bells" is above and beyond among these -- and then go out of my way to avoid.
And some, like Bruce Springsteen's rendition of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and "The Christians and the Pagans" by Dar Williams (it's seasonal around here) are simply too good for me to tire of.
Which holiday songs did you like until they got implanted into your brain with sledgehammers? And which have survived that treatment?
