Randomness
Mar. 6th, 2006 03:42 amWow. Looks like it's going to be another day of disemvowelled balrogs; so far, I've seen at least three folks greeting with them.
Personally, I think Teresa Nielsen Hayden ought to get royalties on any disemvowelling (having originated and propagated its use); pay up, guys! :-D.

Rereading the Amber series, which I do every few years. I always forget just how good it is. And while I'm at it, Quadrophenia makes a great background, especially when it gets loud and Zelazny's describing a hellride.

I hereby claim the Native American name Wrestling With Software. Because that's what I've been doing for the past eight or so hours, fighting it to a draw, then slamming it scapulae-first into the processor. It almost took the graphics card with it, but I slipped a foot behind it, stopped its momentum cold, and am now suppressing a Tarzan yell (which would, I think, be inappropriate for an investment bank, even at 3:50 AM). But you may, if you wish, imagine me ululating triumphantly, foot on prey and hands drumming my chest.
Or, maybe not :-)

27 days, 16 hours, 4 minutes and change until Opening Day.

The Oscars were last night. Congratulations to the winners, I suppose. I haven't seen any of the movies nominated, and probably won't until they're out on DVD. That's due to logistics (time and money and companionship almost never come together at once) -- and, increasingly, by choice. $11.50 per person (for the last movie I went to, HP4) is simply too much. Double that if you buy theater food, and two people have just spent close to $50 for maybe three hours of entertainment. I might pay that for a concert, because in many cases, that's an unreproduceable experience, but I'm just as happy to see most movies at home these days. My confortable couch, a pause button for when interruptions happen or are necessary, and the option to see what I want, when I want it, has almost killed the theater experience for me.
Sad, but true.

Is it time to go home yet? (3 hours to go, until my weekend...)
