Sep. 12th, 2007 03:17 pmSo Our Glorious Leader, may he always receive what he deserves, has decided to draw down up to 30,000 troops by next summer at the recommendation of Gen. Petraeus.
Well, maybe not.
Not that the troops won't be coming home. Rather, it's that this was in the plan all along -- the troop "surge" was an escalation that top brass knew was unsustainable past 18 months duration. And, lest we forget, the law requiring the theatre we've seen in Congress the past couple of days required the White House to write and provide a report, and the General and the Ambassador were on the Hill as witnesses.
To me, this entire charade is on a par with a store that raises its prices and then has a "Big Sale!" for which prices return to preinflated levels.
Time to come home, and send such troops as are still in combat ready shape (few and far between, as I understand it) to find and capture Osama Bin Laden and to try to stabilize Afghanistan -- if even that much can be done.
