Britney Spears has apparently been committed involuntarily for mental and emotional evaluation and treatment.

She's so set up for the next part of Behind the Music. The only real question is what sort of comeback album she makes. Knowing the way the world works, she'll cut a disc of schmaltzy standards, and her now-thirty-year-old fans will eat it up.

That's all I got. (To the folks at 2t0nic: have a good weekend, and don't sing anything I wouldn't :-)

Unfortunately, the end is cut. *sigh* I wanna go SEE, LIVE! </whinge>

Reports are that the Mets have worked out a contract extension with Johan Santana. They required a two-hour extension of their bargaining window; when they requested that, it was clear that they were very close.

Terms seem to be something on the order of six guaranteed years after the current one, with a total value of around $152 million (including a $7 million signing bonus and a boost in this year's salary to somewhere over $20 million). What will be interesting about this contract is that it sets a standard for pitchers at that level, one of whom (C.C. Sabathia of Cleveland) is due to achieve free agency after the 2008 season.

Physicals remain to be passed for the five players involved, but barring any unforeseen issues there, this deal is done and the Mets become the prohibitive favorite to win the NL East, and a strong favorite to win the NL pennant.

For me, I say nice going, Omar. And, as a fan, w00t!
