I was never a fan of Jack Kemp. His economic theories (straight out of Ayn Rand) had about as much to do with the real world as did Bugs Bunny's physics; he was a major force behind the trickle-down theory that has, in many ways, been the primary force behind the current recession. He
died of cancer the other day, and I noted it and prepared to move on.
This morning, I read
this letter to his grandchildren over at
Balloon Juice:
( A long excerpt from a remarkable letter )I'm surprised the Republican Party didn't drum up a court-martial for him after this was published. I suspect that the new party leadership will be working to hide this kind of document to preserve his memory.
Meanwhile, I'm glad to have read this, and found a very human side to a man who hadn't inspired much compassion before.
