The Yankees were involved in a three-way blockbuster today, and it looks pretty good for them. Here's the summary:

  • To the Yankees: Curtis Granderson, OF

  • To the Arizona Diamondbacks: Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy, SP

  • To the Detroit Tigers: starter Max Scherzer, relievers Daniel Schlereth and Phil Coke, and center fielder Austin Jackson

IMO, this is a pretty good trade all around, provided the Dbacks prefer Jackson to Scherzer. Considering that Jackson is probably a more rounded pitcher, with stuff only a tick under Scherzer's (but with better control and possibly better stamina; there's been talk about Scherzer fitting into the bullpen rather than the rotation), it's probably worth their while. (Also, Kennedy must stay healthy, after missing 2009 with an aneurism.)

As a Yankee fan, I'm excited about what this does for the team. They still need to settle their left field situation, and the move probably makes either Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner expendable, either now or later. But from here, a definite thumbs-up!
