Nov. 5th, 2010 09:59 amEvery morning, WFUV (Fordham's radio station) asks a musical or music-related question of the day, which listeners answer, and from the answers is compiled an on-air set.
This morning's QotD is one I suspect a large fraction of my friends have considered at one time or another, so I'll pass it along:
If you could be any artist for just one night, who would it be, and why, and what would you play or sing?
My answer:
I necessarily left off about eight gazillion others, from Laurie Anderson to Warren Zevon. But who among us hasn't daydreamed of being hir favorite performer, up on stage, rocking the house? (Even the folks who DO rock the house regularly. In fact, I am reasonably certain that those folks are the ones who daydreamed the hardest about it.)

My answer:
This is a tough question, not because I haven't thought about it, but because I've thought about it too often. Candidates on the list include the everpresent Jimi Hendrix, Peter Gabriel, Richard Thompson, and Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir, but ultimately, it comes down to who I think electrified the crowds he played for the absolute most, and gave them what they wanted.
That would make me be Steve Goodman, who could play the phone book and make it great. But of his usual repertoire, I think I'd want to play "Lincoln Park Pirates", because it has that great mix of reality and humor, and it rocks.
