A Long Night's Day
Jun. 6th, 2005 03:00 amThis is going to be a long, long day.
Wakened Sunday, 4:45 PM to shower, shave, dress, and otherwise prepare for work. Got out at 6 PM to get to work by 7 PM (actually, to ensure being here by 6:45 PM for a 7 PM shift; lateness is one of the things I have made progress in getting past in my life and I want to keep it that way).
Work 7 PM - 7 AM (well, I will get out at 7; it's now about 3:05).
Home by 7:45 AM; back out the door with my son at 8 AM so he's at school on time.
Tomorrow, in particular, is a big day for him. He (with my assistance) won second place in his grade level (1) for his project at the school Science Fair. (The project was on density; we demonstrated with pumice and quartz, for example, of the same size, their weight differences vs water.) The presentation of awards is at 9 AM, and should last no more than one hour. I hope. [EDIT: I've told him how proud I am of him, and plan to do so again. But this is my chance to say so in a way that makes it plain to the world. So, Z, you did great!]
Immediately after the awards ceremony, I will drive
maya_a and our daughter T out to New Jersey, where we've arranged to adopt a new cat into the household (after several weeks of checking out ads without urgency). He's 8 years old and gray and white; I'll try to remember to take and post pics. (I would have liked to do this Friday, but the owner was a bit slow in responding.) And back, in time to get Z from school at 2:30. And to try, HARD, to be awake for the evening online meeting.
I hope Chester (the new boycat's name; yes, he's fixed IIRC) get along with Mimi and Lea (our two 15-year-old females). We'll see. In any event, it's exciting, as it always is when someone new is coming home. :-)
Back to work...
