A Tale of Two Homers
Aug. 4th, 2007 10:44 pmGood: A-rod hit his 500th, the youngest ever to that mark (32 years, 8 days). Congratulations to a helluva player.
Doublepls ungood: Barry Bonds has hit his 755th home run, tying Hank Aaron's career record. Personally, I'm sorry to see it, and I hope when he's proved to have used steroids, they expunge him from the record books. He cheated, in a way that is at least as bad as what Pete Rose did, if not worse. (Rose gambled on the sport, but seems not to have bet on his own team, while a manager.) What Bonds did is both wrong, and the ultimate expression of the modern win-at-all-costs and do-it-now philosophies. I am looking forward to the proof coming out, regardless of baseball's attempts to suppress it.
