Dec. 7th, 2007 01:59 amWhen the current trend of adapting old TV shows for the big screen started, one of the shows I ardently hoped would be adapted was Speed Racer. I learned some time ago that indeed, it had been picked up and was being done by the Wachowski brothers (who made The Matrix et sequelae and V for Vendetta, which shows only that they're as capable as George Lucas of reaching the extremes of quality in both directions).
USA Today has some stills from the movie, and they look great. The article associated with the pictures says that what they were going for was the look of the original, with a modern aesthetic added. I think they've hit the right notes, and now have two movies (along with The Golden Compass) on my To-See list. (And one, the atrocity that is the adaptation of Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising, on my Kill The Producers list.)
