When the current trend of adapting old TV shows for the big screen started, one of the shows I ardently hoped would be adapted was Speed Racer. I learned some time ago that indeed, it had been picked up and was being done by the Wachowski brothers (who made The Matrix et sequelae and V for Vendetta, which shows only that they're as capable as George Lucas of reaching the extremes of quality in both directions).

USA Today has some stills from the movie, and they look great. The article associated with the pictures says that what they were going for was the look of the original, with a modern aesthetic added. I think they've hit the right notes, and now have two movies (along with The Golden Compass) on my To-See list. (And one, the atrocity that is the adaptation of Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising, on my Kill The Producers list.)

Huzzah! The plumber just came by and did the first, and most urgent, of several jobs that need doing. We now have a bathtub whose faucet isn't leaking at gallons per minute -- which apparently caused a leak downstairs. So unless our downstairs neighbor reports something awry again, we now have the main water valve on, and life is almost as it was.

Monday we see if the secondary bathroom sink can get unclogged/unleaked (the latter of which was me, trying to fix the clog). And at some point, we need to deal with the kitchen and see if we can prevent the upstairs neighbor's washing machine drainage from welling up into (and often out of) our kitchen sink.

But for now, not having to open and shut the main water valve just to use the bathroom will do.
