I've loaded a new MP3 player with chunks of music, in anticipation of having it soothe me while I'm in the dentist's chair for a couple of hours tomorrow morning after not getting in for maintenance visits all last year. (My main MP3 player is bulky; this one is teeny.) Comfort music, all of it. The player will need a complete rework after coming home to get some more unheard things onto it, but for now, I have 8 shows, 135 songs, 1.26GB loaded:

  • Peter Gabriel - 1977-04-09

  • Genesis - 1976-04-13

  • Grateful Dead - 1973-12-06

  • Renaissance - Live at Carnegie Hall

  • Stan Rogers - Home In Halifax

  • Bruce Springsteen - 1978-08-09

  • The Ukelele Orchestra Of Great Britain - 2007-11-15

  • Dar Williams - Out There Live

A fairly typical, and safe, representation of the core of my music (selected specifically for live shows; there are a few studio things I'd normally load, but I really want live stuff tomorrow). Not bad for an hour's work, though (what with renaming the files to add artist and show names, after pulling them from folders to live in the root of the new player).

[As I look at the list I realize I mostly chose older work, even when I have more recent material available. On another day, I might have included material from the Decemberists, the Flaming Lips, Richard Shindell, etc., whose work is more recent, or even more current material such as a Seeger Sessions show by Bruce. This is just what I grabbed for first.]
