It's been a zombie week for me. I go to work, come home, sleep, wake briefly to retrieve T from school, and sleep again, then lather, rinse, and repeat. I have an important message sitting on my machine that I've started to return three times, only to wake in the office chair, wondering why I wasn't in bed. It doesn't look like it gets any better this weekend: both days are already committed to long stretches out of the house.

Can we have some holidays, so I can catch up from the post-holiday exhaustion? :-)

I'm not a huge fan of many things that have happened in the past year, politically. Today's press conference, in which President Obama discussed the failed Christmas bombing of an airplane, shows why I still think we made the right decision as a nation in 2008.

He took responsibility for the failure, and presented a specific plan for how he was correcting the discovered problem. Then-President Bush never took responsibility for any of the terrorist attacks against the US that occurred on his watch, including the ones on 9/11, the anthrax attacks shortly thereafter, or the Shoe Bomber (Richard Reid), whose attack was the closest to this last one. (Changes that were made were the responsibility of the Department of Homeland Security, a massive kludge that's failed multiple times, that Bush created.) But he did take credit for destroying Iraq, and for implementing "democracy" -- which then turned into a seven-year war that has cost trillioins of dollars and thousands of US lives.

Responsibility, or credit? Which do you want your President to claim?
