Bob Sheppard, long-time PA announcer at Yankee Stadium, is gone.

Love the Yankees or hate them, everyone knew this voice and respected it. You'd think 57 years would be enough, but for those of us who grew up with Bob Sheppard announcing batters day in and day out, another 57 wouldn't be nearly enough. RIP, man; you earned it.

Huzzah! I've been shopping for a new laptop for a while; finally decided to snag a Dell Inspiron 1764 that comes with a 16GB Zune. It's a shame I couldn't get it with 500GB onboard (it comes with 320GB), but I can go get a 640GB or 750GB hard drive. I was going to have to reinstall the system anyway to get rid of all the crapware Dell loads, and the 320GB drive can go into an external enclosure and be used for data. I should see if I can set it up to dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows 7; that, however, can wait until all the hardware gets here.

Full specs here for the geeks )

No, it's not a full-bore gaming laptop. But it will probably handle anything I'm likely to throw at it, with the heaviest stuff likely to be heavy graphics and maybe some audio and video editing (and transcoding). Now I can stop shopping and actually manage substantive content when I'm away from home.
