Leo Frankowski, author of the Conrad Stargard series of books, died on Christmas day 2008. While not a wild fan of his work, I enjoyed the first five books in the series (as is often the case, he revisited it significantly later for the sixth book, and the quality fell off).

So much for the cross-time engineer. Requiescat.
